Tom Ford's A Single Man

Set design is an important element in the movie A Single Man. It becomes another character in the story. The photos I show are in the home of Julianne Moore's character, Charlie.
The movie is set in Los Angeles in the early 60's. Charlie is a wealthy divorced woman. The set design for her home says it all.
Our homes are our sets. They should reflect who we are.

This living room setting is so chic. The soft color palette is lovely and sophisticated, like Charlie.

I love the colors and patterns in this room.They're gorgeous and pulled together. They are also a little messy, like Charlie.

Master Bedroom

This master bedroom project has lots of color and texture. The fabrics include embroidered silk and cut velvet. There will be photos of the room coming soon.

Scalamandre'

This new ad from Scalamandre' is wonderful for many reasons; color, layout, design. What I like about it the most is it's so true. I have worked with clients on addition and renovation projects where the original inspiration for the project was a piece of furniture they love. Sometimes that's where you start.

More From The NYC Gift Fair

I love going to this show. I love going to NYC . This show has most of my favorite sources for accessories, area rugs, lighting... Plus I always come across a new find, an incredible source for products I can use with my design clients.

I found wonderful things at Design Legacy, a wholesaler selling to retailers and designers. They have gorgeous pillows, fabrics, accessories and furniture.

This inspiration board is an assignment from the e-class I'm taking on blogging. I loved putting it together. Its a great way to gather ideas for whatever project you are working on.

New York

I was in New York for a few days. What a great city. I went to visit a friend and to go to the New York International Gift Fair, which is so much more that just gifts.

The displays for this show are amazing. I'll have more about the show later.

Cafe Lalo

Cafe Lalo is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. It's a bit famous because it was used in the movie You've Got Mail. The scene where Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meet and talk. He knows who she is but she doesn't know who he is.

Cafe Lalo has amazing food. It is organic, vegetarian and delicious. There is also a pastry case filled with outlandish delicacies such as peach raspberry pie and chocolate lover's torte.

The decor is French bistro and the setting is very much New York. It is on W83st between Amsterdam and Broadway.

The Dorilton

Architecture in New York runs the gamut from classic traditional to modern. There is a building, The Doriltion, on W 71st at Broadway that is wonderful. It is in the Beaux Arts style.

The Dorilton was built in 1902 to house artists and musicians. There are probably very few artists and musicians who could afford to live there today.

Apartments in the building have large, spacious rooms, many have bay windows.

The apartments go for between $1.5 and $3.3 million. The Dorilton is an exuberant, romantic building.
